About the MOH&SW
The Lesotho Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is responsible for the health and social well-being of the people of Lesotho. We are an organisation of health-minded professionals working productively in partnership with all our stakeholders and supporters. We strive to ensure that our efforts are reflected in improving standards of health for all Basotho and are reflected in well-managed facilities and programmes where services are rendered with efficiency and compassion.
We work in one of the toughest and most demanding environments faced by health care and social welfare professionals anywhere in the world. There are parts of Lesotho that can only be accessed by a Cessna 206 flying ambulances, Basotho ponies and off-road motorbikes. The work we do is as high and as mountainous as the snow-capped Maluti Mountains and we work with all the traditional challenges faced by a developing country including HIV/AIDS, Malnutrition, Poverty, TB among a host of other problems. Just some of the diverse people it takes to do this include doctors, nurses, administrators, pathologists, psychiatrists, professional managers, HR Specialists, epidemiologists, ambulance drivers, nutritionists, educators, community animators and trainers, cleaners, pilots, statisticians, accountants, pharmacists, security personnel and clerks to name but a few.
This Web 2.0 website is based on OpenSource technology and concerns itself with our people, culture, branding, identity and the work we do. This is a shared record of our vision, our mission and our values and how these are lived day-to-day by MOH&SW's diverse professionals. We also include a shared Wiki and other social networking innovations based on a model developed by the WHO and a number of other organisations engaged in health care in the developing world.
