Welcome to the MOH&SW KnowledgeHive Wiki

A Wiki is a website or similar an online resource which allows users to add and edit content collectively. The MOH&SW's Wiki is based on a model that has been successfully used by the WHO to stimulate health workers to 'make the connection' and share knowledge in a way that it remains in the organisation.

This Wiki is designed for MOH&SW's employees and stakeholders to engage in asynchronous conversations (using this technology, you don't have to be physically present in time and space to be part of a conversation).

What else can be done with this site? This site integrates Web 2.0 Social Networking Technology - this essentially means that the site can accept and serve any kind of digital information - including video, podcasts & audio, and digital files such as word and .pdf to the user community. Web 2.0 is a term describing the trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to enhance creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. These concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies. As it stands, this site can:

  • maintain a shared Wiki which includes any kind of digital media
  • conduct democratic voting using surveys and polls
  • maintain an on-line gallery of events, workshops and other important happenings
  • allow everyone at the MOH&SW to participate in asynchronous conversations
  • integrate with other social networking sites such as facebook
  • allow users to upload content such as photographs and digital recordings from cellphones
  • run forums, virtual meetings and online conversations
  • aggregate newsfeeds from important health-related sites into a single resource
